Historia Del Palmas Restaurant Group
Palmas Restaurant Group has a rich history rooted in Mexican heritage and culture.
Our story began in 1693, with the building of the residence "Our Lady of Santa Ana" in Mexico City. Over the next 160 years, the property underwent several changes and additions, including being used for farming, until it was purchased and expanded by Ramon Goicoechea in 1777 and named "Hacienda de Goicoechea." This house still stands and is now the site of the San Angel Inn.
In 1906, the San Angel Land Company acquired the property and opened the San Angel Inn hotel in 1908. In 1963, the company opened the San Angel Inn Restaurante, showcasing the best of Mexican cuisine.
In the 1970s, Richard Debler Sr, who's father owned San Angel Inn Restaurante, found a Gold Mickey that the Walt Disney Company had sent his parents. Seeing an opportunity, Richard contacted Disney and proposed bringing Mexican culture and cuisine to the company's upcoming Mexico Pavilion at Walt Disney World.
Thus, San Angel Inn was born.
Today, Palmas Restaurant Group manages and serves 13 locations on Disney property, including six in Epcot's Mexico Pavilion, six at Coronado Springs, and Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs. Through these locations, we are proud to bring Mexican history and culture to life and provide memorable and magical dining experiences for our guests. We are honored to be able to share our heritage and culture with the world.
